Poland’s registered unemployment rate was 5.8% in August 2026, unchanged from July and slightly below market expectations of 5.9%. Despite this, the rate remained at its lowest level since December 2025. The number of unemployed fell by 3.1 thousand over the month, to 909.5 thousand, with women accounting for 49.8% of the total.

The vast majority of jobseekers were not receiving unemployment benefits, representing 87.3% of all unemployed persons. Individuals laid off for company-related reasons made up 4.5% of the unemployed, while recent graduates accounted for 2.3%. In addition, 377.8 thousand people had been unemployed for more than a year.

On a yearly basis, the jobless rate was 0.3 percentage points higher than in August 2025, when it stood at 5.5%. Separately, the number of reported job vacancies at the end of August declined by 2.2 thousand to 46.6 thousand.
