The Ibovespa dipped close to the 158,000 mark on Monday as investors analyzed the latest Focus Bulletin. The bulletin indicated an upward revision of the projected Selic rate for 2026, increasing it from 12.13% to 12.25%, which dampened market sentiment. Major financial institutions saw declines with Itaú and Banco do Brasil slipping, while Bradesco dropped around 0.5%. Axia notably plummeted over 20% following the approval of a significant overhaul in its shareholding structure and a R$1 billion capitalization of its retained earnings. Other companies facing setbacks included WEG (-3.4%), Ambev (-1.3%), and Rede D’Or (-2.4%). Conversely, Vale experienced a nearly 0.6% rise due to enhanced iron ore prices stemming from a restricted supply by BHP. Petrobras appreciated by 1.3% as oil prices climbed following U.S. officials' interception of an oil tanker off the Venezuelan coast, intensifying concerns over potential supply disruptions. Additionally, consumer confidence surged to 90.2 points in December, marking the highest level since December 2024. The Focus Bulletin also revealed a slight decrease in the 2025 IPCA inflation forecast, adjusted to 4.33% from 4.36%.
